This evening event will provide an opportunity for members of the public to listen to a number of speakers talk about their experiences in environmental campaigning and the law. Each speaker will give a presentation on their particular areas of expertise and at the conclusion of the last presentation there will be a Question and Answer session, followed by light refreshments.
Event Speakers include:
Jamie Whittle and Frances McCartney are solicitors who have wide-ranging experience in the area of environmental law. They are both members of the ELF referral network and have advised on a number of ELF cases.
Outside of ELF they are both active in environmental law: Jamie has professional expertise in planning and land use law, water quality/pollution cases and nature conservation; and Frances was a lawyer for National Park Authority for three years and has advised NPA on the Nature Conservation (Scotland) Act including particularly red squirrels and planning issues.
Iain Thom works in project development at Friends of the Earth Scotland, based in Edinburgh. He has extensive campaigning experience on environmental issues.
Sarah Longhurst has worked with ELF as the coordinator of the Community Outreach Programme since May 2005. Sarah has developed the Programme through organising and coordinating events and workshops around the country.
Planning an environmental campaign and the Law will provide members of the public a forum in which they can learn important aspects of campaigning and the law, which will equip them with the necessary knowledge and important information about how best to run a successful campaign.
