The Civic Trust is partnering with the Environmental Law Foundation, LawWorks and Field Fisher Waterhouse to host a full day training event to promote better understanding of organisational governance and environmental law for Civic Societies and community organisations in London, the South East and the North West regions. This London event is the first of two; a second event will be held in Manchester on Thursday 29th November 2007.

The first half of the event will provide opportunities for Civic Societies to increase their effectiveness and professionalism in their day to day operations.  This will also have relevance to other types of community groups.

The second half of the day will focus on environment and planning law.  This will be delivered by three ELF lawyers and will cover: (i) an overview of environmental and planning law; and (ii) three workshops: (a) writing successful responses to planning applications; (b) registering town and village greens; (c) protecting the built environment.

In addition, a fourth workshop to be run by the Civic Trust will address, "building effective relationships with local authorities"
