As part of the Environmental Law Foundation’s commitment to Pro-Bono Week we will be holding an event on 13th November on the role of pro-bono lawyers in shaping climate change justice. It will be an evening of talks from a distinguished panel of ELF experts on this subject and associated topics. What does environmental law mean in a public law context? Have any recent developments in case law seen benefits to environmental protection, or not? These and other questions will be addressed.
As a launch pad for ELF’s schedule of events in 2009 focusing on climate change, we hope it will make for an interesting evening.
We are delighted that the following ELF advisers have agreed to speak at the event:
Andrew Lockley is head of public law at Irwin Mitchell. Over the years Andrew has taken many ELF referral cases, committing more than one hundred hours of valuable pro-bono advice to ELF clients. One of Andrew’s ELF cases, referred to him four years ago, is now expected to clarify the ever evolving law on village greens.
Nick Flynn is on the Board of Trustees of A4ID, and an active member of their pro-bono committee. He is an associate solicitor at US law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, where he is noted as working directly with governments to draft comprehensive environmental protection statutes.
Emma Dixon of Blackstone Chambers has assisted ELF on numerous occasions. She is currently instructed as Junior Counsel in the eagerly anticipated Buglife case, currently making its way through the Courts. This case was the first to test the biodiversity duty contained within the NERC Act 2006.
Chaired by ELF’s CEO Debbie Tripley, we look forward to seeing you.
Places are free on a first come, first served basis. Please contact Emma Montlake to secure a place.
